The State of Vibe Coding in Enterprise

Software development inside enterprises is undergoing a shift.
With vibe coding, applications are no longer written line by line. Instead, teams describe what they want in natural language, and AI generates the underlying code.

This approach builds on the low-code/no-code movement but removes the limits of templates and drag-and-drop tools. The result: faster delivery, broader participation, and new ways for business and technical teams to collaborate.

Early Signs of Adoption

Several large organizations have already started experimenting. In retail, Walmart reported saving millions of developer hours by introducing AI-powered code assistants. In finance, Citigroup is using generative coding to accelerate legacy modernization for tens of thousands of developers. Similarly in consulting, Cognizant hosted a global event where over 250,000 employees created prototypes using vibe coding tools.

These examples show that the idea is moving quickly from experimentation to real-world use.

Opportunities and Challenges

The potential is clear: faster prototyping, broader access to innovation, and reduced dependence on specialized coding skills.

But enterprises are also encountering new challenges:

  • Shadow IT: apps built outside formal IT oversight
  • Compliance risks: gaps in encryption, audit trails, and explainability
  • Technical debt: AI-generated code that is difficult to maintain or scale

As with any shift in technology, the benefits come with risks that need careful management.

What We Found in Our Research

In preparing the report, we explored:

  • How enterprises in different sectors are adopting vibe coding
  • The evolving platform landscape, from established players to new entrants
  • The governance gaps emerging around compliance, security, and oversight
  • Practical considerations for enterprise leaders

Our goal was not only to highlight the opportunities, but also to surface the questions organizations will need to address to use vibe coding responsibly.
